Meet Your Wedding Filmmaker

"We couldn't have picked a better videographer to capture our wedding day!"

Amanda & Josh

Hi, I'm John... it's great to meet you!

When couples invite me into their wedding day, I’m always aware of how personal that trust is. It’s a day filled with emotion, connection, and moments that deserve to be remembered for what they truly were.

I’m known for being a warm, calm, steady presence - someone who pays attention, listens closely, and creates space for moments to unfold naturally. On a day that can move quickly and feel overwhelming, I believe there’s real value in having someone there who is grounded, observant, and fully present.

I make films because I want couples to feel their day again and again - to relive the warmth, the connection, and the real moments that make their story unmistakably theirs. Every film I create is shaped by the people, the relationships, and the trust I’m given.

Why I Do This

Before wedding films, my work lived in broadcast television and corporate media.

I spent a decade in broadcast television before moving into a Media Producer role at Research In Motion (BlackBerry) in Waterloo - at the time, one of the most exciting technology companies in the world. It really was a dream job and in my position I wore several hats: producer, director, videographer, editor. I worked across many teams and departments, creating videos for marketing, training, and corporate communications. It was creative, demanding work - and on paper, it looked like everything I’d worked toward.

But underneath all of that, something else was going on in my head and heart.

After several years at RIM, I was doing well and grateful for the opportunity - but it felt like something was missing. The work was polished and professional, but it wasn’t as meaningful to me as I hoped it would be. I kept feeling pulled toward something more personal… something centered on people, emotion, and real connection.

One afternoon, a colleague on our media team asked if I wanted to watch a wedding film he’d made as a side project. At the time, my impression of wedding videos was pretty outdated. I still pictured long, shaky footage that felt like rough documentation. Still, I was curious, so I said yes.

What I saw stopped me.

It wasn’t anything like I expected.

It was cinematic. Beautifully filmed. Thoughtfully put together. Emotionally driven. Like a movie.

It told a real story - intimate, human, and deeply personal - and felt much closer to a short film than a traditional wedding video. As I watched it, I felt something shift. For the first time, I could see a kind of filmmaking that was both deeply creative and deeply meaningful, centered on people, relationships, and one of the most important days of their lives.

I knew almost immediately: this was what I wanted to do.

I talked it through with my wife. We had long, honest conversations about timing, risk, and what it would mean for our family. A few months later, I gave my notice at RIM. And within a week of leaving, I walked into a camera store and bought all the camera equipment I needed, and started down this path.

Not long after deciding to pursue wedding films, a couple in Toronto reached out and invited me to their home to talk through their vision for their wedding at The Ritz-Carlton Toronto.

That first meeting mattered.

Sitting with Melissa and Chris in their living room, listening to what they hoped their day would feel like - not just how it would look - I realized how personal this work could be. This wasn’t a project brief or a creative assignment. It was an invitation into something much more meaningful.

Their wedding itself was beautiful in every sense of the word, refined, thoughtfully planned, and deeply personal. But what stayed with me most wasn’t the scale or setting. It was the experience of being present for a day like that. Watching quiet moments unfold. Seeing relationships reveal themselves in both small and large gestures. Feeling the emotion of the day, not as an outsider, but as someone trusted to capture and preserve it.

Driving home at the end of the evening, I was overwhelmed with gratitude.

I felt energized, and deeply thankful for the day I'd just been part of. It was the realization that this kind of storytelling - rooted in people, emotion, meaning, and trust - was exactly where I was meant to be. That day confirmed everything I'd been feeling. This wasn’t just a new direction. It was the work I wanted to dedicate myself to.

That first wedding was 14 years ago. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of meeting and getting to know hundreds of remarkable couples - each with their own stories, families, histories, and hopes for the future.

What’s stayed with me most is knowing that these films become a way for couples to return, again and again, to how their wedding day felt. To relive the emotion, the words, and the presence of the people they love most. I’ve heard some of the most beautiful and vulnerable words spoken in these moments, and I’m deeply grateful to have been there for them - and trusted to preserve them with care.

Over time, these films are shared again and again with family and friends, and often with children - becoming part of a family’s story long after the wedding day has passed.

To be trusted with something that meaningful is difficult to put into words.

Today, I work with a limited number of couples each year so I can stay fully invested in every story I tell, giving each film the time, care, artistry, and intention it deserves. Whether we end up working together or not, thank you for taking the time to hear my story.

And if we do move forward together, know this:

I’ll approach your wedding day with the same care, respect, and commitment that has guided my work from the very beginning.

One in a million!

"I still remember when John walked into the room the morning of our wedding, there was a tremendous amount of positivity and excitement that came through the doors with him. I had butterflies in my stomach and my bridesmaids and family were excited and anxious about the day ahead; but John immediately put everyone, including me at ease. His passion for his work will be evident as soon as he starts filming. He is exceedingly tactful at capturing the tender moments... you can trust him and his team to get those genuine emotions on film. He is one in a million and we were honored to have had him film our special day!"
